Clopay^® Canyon Ridge^® Louver Doors Add Nautical Charm to Southern Living^® 2022 Idea House

Clopay Canyon Ridge faux wood garage doors are featured on the Southern Living 2022 Idea House. Situated along the idyllic maritime community of Oriental, North Carolina, the house was the magazine’s October cover story and is currently open to the public for tours through December 18, 2022.

Centered around the concept of “The Great Escape,” this year’s Idea House was inspired by the laid-back charm of the Carolina coast. Modern versatile spaces for living, working, and entertaining flow seamlessly onto the home’s extensive wraparound porches, inspiring friends and family to gather, relax and enjoy the stunning waterfront views.

Choosing materials that will hold-up in high humidity and salt air is important when designing a coastal home. Idea House architect William Court of Court Atkins Group says that his team tries to use fiber cement siding and engineered composites that have the beauty and realism of natural wood but require less upkeep and fewer replacements over time.

Clopay wood-look composite garage doors have been the builders’ go-to construction material for the last three Southern Living Idea House projects for that very reason. Jordan Maroules of SLD Custom Homes picked Clopay Canyon Ridge Louver doors painted Sherwin Williams^® Charcoal Blue to fit the nautical theme of the North Carolina Idea House.

“Getting away from it all means unplugging from phones, email, and especially house projects,” says Justin Evans, Clopay Corporation’s vice president of marketing. “Composite is UV- and moisture-resistant and won’t rot, warp or crack. Clopay’s custom Color Blast® two-part paint system is specially formulated for excellent adhesion and stability on composite so it is going to last.”

The Idea Home’s two-car detached garage has a guest suite above it so insulation was another important consideration to reduce noise when the doors open and close. “The Canyon Ridge Louver door is 5-layers thick with a 2” polyurethane foam insulated core to dampen sound,” adds Evans. “ Garage door insulation is also going to help keep the upstairs living space a consistent, comfortable temperature during the summer months.”

A portion of the proceeds from the in-person tours goes to three local charities: HeartWorks, Hope Clinic, and Pamlico Partnership for Children.
