Own a house made in 1998. When it was 0 outside, the garage would be 40. Now that I have purchased a brand new door that is "insulated," an 0 degree temp will give me a 10 deg reading in the garage. Their "insulated" door marketing is a scam and the door quality is awful. My son put a dent in this door with a tennis ball. Worst idea to put a new door in. Would rather have kept the door from 1988.

Based on the door information provided, yours is model 4053, which is a 1-3/8” polystyrene insulation, giving a 6.5 R Value. (Took off 1 star only because of multiple errors the installer made that required repairs. Repairs were not done properly either, so I had to call in another installer to repair what the first one did poorly. Doors are now right.)

"Best door on the market in my opinion."

Instructions are extremely easy to follow, and in perfect order for the homeowner. Although I was replacing an old Clopay door, I gave up the temptation to use the old tracks as recommended. There is only one glitch in their procedure and that is that after the door is operational, loosen the slide on the top roller because it was binding in the track as originally tightened (a very easy fix that should be the last thing to do).

"Classic Collection R18.4"

I was in the market to replace our aging garage door this past spring. I contacted about seven local door garage companies in the greater Ottawa area for price quotations. After reviewing all the submitted quotations I was shocked at the prices that I got for a simple 16x7 door. Even thought I made sure the doors were all the same style and colour so that we would be on the same level in price comparison. At this point I did not contact Home Depot I just was too sure if it would be a good idea with no knowledge about Clopay. Anyway I went to the HD web site and build a door to the same specifications as I requested from the other supplier. I was surprise that I was able to get a better door (2” R18.5 insulated door) compared to the other suppliers at a very reasonable price. It was a no brainer comparing the built quality of the door, pricing, warranty and door options like a great selection of colours and windows. I strongly recommend adding the upgrade door hinges and roller package it’s a great value for what you get in return. I placed the order on line and then the follow up calls and emails started the process of getting my garage door delivered and installed. The ordering process was very easy and simple. The door was shipped and then it was installed in manner of weeks. The installers were very good in removing and disposing of the old door. However, during the installation the installer noticed a defect on the top panel. He immediatly texted Coplay and within a couple a minutes a new panel was approved and ordered. I was very very impressed with how fast Clopay reacted to the issue and resolved. I'm sold on Clopay products and after service.

Love the door,,,, this is our second Clopay. 1st one purchased 16 years ago. On the 1st one,,,, the opener bracket torn,,, sheet metal tore in two pieces. Then one spring broke the following week. The problem with the new door is the installation directions. The booklet is inadequate. For example,,,, how do you set the right tension on the springs. The book says,,, it must be the same on both sides.... Also our garage has a low ceiling.... not enough room to use the standard top hinge. No instructions.

I am not happy with my door. There are gaps between panels. Not all vertical posts have brackets but there are holes for them. The door was bought through a dealer and professionally installed. "Classic Steel Insulated Garage Doors"

I recently began remodeling my garage, and Clopay was the first product I bought. The Insulated Classic White Steel Garage Doors were my choice. As lovely on the outside as it is within. What a significant temperature difference the insulation made.

I replaced an older door that had buckled when it flew off the track with a newer insulated steel door. It looks better, and with the insulation and steel on the inside should be much sturdier. With a longer warranty, I'm guessing this will last longer than we will! While I can't say if this is the "door" or the new "garage opener", its also MUCH quieter than our old one, which I'm sure will make the neighbors happy when it opens late at night.

Clopay uses door section R-values for our garage door insulation testing, which is in accordance with the Door and Access Manufacturers Association Guidelines provided in TDS-163: https://www.dasma.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/TDS163..pdf R-value is the most widely used measurement for a garage door’s energy efficiency. Clopay insulated garage door R-values depend on the door thickness, material and type of insulation, and range from 6.3 to 20.4. Most of the residential doors we manufacture in 24- or 25-gauge steel are our 1 layer steel doors (R=0) and vinyl-back insulated 2 layer doors (R= 6.3). Our 3 layer doors do not require as thick of steel inside & out because they derive a lot of their strength from their sandwich door construction. The gauge of steel and heft of the door does not matter as much as the type and thickness of insulation behind the steel. I was going to buy the "good" rated door to save some money but ended up buying this door which is rated "better", and I'm so glad I did! If you're on a budget I recommend spending a little more and get this door. This door wasn't that much more money and it was worth it. It has a nice amount of insulation, making it feel more solid. It also has a metal skin on the inside instead of just the exposed insulation, which gives it a much cleaner look and will make it easier to clean in the future. It's not even cold outside yet but we can tell our garage is much better sealed and will be warmer this winter. This was the first time I have installed an overhead door so it took a while to do, but the instructions were very good.

Got the Clopay garage doors to replace my 25 year old doors, the new doors very nice really added nice curb appeal and my garage is a lot more insulated my wife and really notice the temperature difference.

The end installed result was good, however I ran into a number of installation instruction issues during installation. I read all the enclosed instructions as well as watched the installation videos online. 1) On the video: https://www.clopaydoor.com/residential/buyingguide/residential-installation-videos. At 1:01 it tells you to drill 3/8" pilot holes for 5/16" lag bolts. (3/8" is larger than the 5/16" lag bolt) 2) There is no specific mention to the fact there is an upside and downside to the panels in the instructions. 3) The door I bought was rated for 150mph winds, so it had 6 of the horizontal cross braces. No part of the instructions (printed, or online) say where to install the cross braces if you have 6 of them.

This door is excellent and well made. I especially liked that I could custom fit this with a few inches higher and wider for my application and at no extra cost. I also found the Clopay customer service people very helpful as I sized this in a custom build building. The door ended up being slightly larger than 11 feet tall and 15 feet wide. I did the installation by myself one piece at a time. I also went with the upgrade to make the bearings and spring heavy duty and glad I did that. Ordered two of these from Home Depot for a new pole building/garage addition. I would have preferred a charcoal color to match my building trim, but sadly, that is not an option on the Classic Steel doors. Home Depot unfortunately mislead me and said the model I had selected would have the steel backing/covered insulation to the interior. When I received them, I have the vinyl backed insulation (also was slightly damaged). Not Clopay's fault, but maybe educate the retailers a little better... My main gripe is the cost to upgrade for the windows, VS what you actually get. The window grid "frame" is honestly laughable. The windows aren't separated, it's just one big window, and the cheap plastic frame with rough, untrimmed edges is placed on the inside. I've seen better quality from dirt cheap doors. For an pricey upgrade to a $1,000+ door, I'm very disappointed in this aspect. Also, the vinyl weather stripping trim for the exterior is very soft and flexes when you screw it into the framing, while being very careful. It's very hard to get it evenly sealed and weathertight unless if maybe you have a stapler and attach it every 2", which I don't have (I used white hex head self tapping screws every 6" - 8" or so to match my metal pole building exterior. I'll be removing and adding some adhesive and reattaching to hopefully get a better seal. As far as the install goes, once you get the first one done, the 2nd was fairly easy. I took my time for the first install. I did receive an extra angle piece which I had assumed was for reinforcing for the garage door, however, after reading the instructions multiple times, it still was not 100% clear where this piece went? Also, I'm happy that the torsion spring has the drill adapter unit for winding. I was most apprehensive about this part of the install, and this made it so much easier.

On other brands they are bolted to the rail and adjustable for a good tight fit with the door jamb. Your rail brackets are riveted. I will need to do a jamb extension now for the jamb to fit properly against the door.

let start with saying that I replaced the door because I have to do it and not because I need to do it, the other thing I rent in a HOA where every other garage door is clopay , so i did not have a choice . I installed the door my self , however the instructions are pretty general, you must pay attention the type of door that you have in front of you in order to follow the instructions, which somehow are useless because there is not one whole in the panel that matched the size of the bolts or what is supposed to hold, I spend great part of my time drilling new holes and making other bigger, the instructions for the springs set up cannot be worst !! I have to figured out how to do this part in youtube videos , i dont know if this company make this instructions on purpose like that , to make the costumer buy a professional installation services which in my area is 500 dollars before taxes.the locks that these door bring cannot be installed anywhere if you of course dont make new holes. personally i will not recommend this garage door , maybe is so used in my area because you can get it from homedepot or because is the cheapest, but i will think twice to buy another Clopay door, that's without mention that if you are installing a new door from scratch the motor and other stuff doesn't come with the door that is another expense which i find un real .

Our Door Warranties do not cover surface rust as it is an environmental issue. Our general guidelines are cleaning the door 2 times per year, but in coastal states or harsh conditions require washing 4 times per year and spray wax to protect the painted steel. Much like a car that sits outside all of the time, steel doors need this maintenance to prevent rust. Bought this door (w/windows) hoping to replace my old door, the problem is quality control or lack thereof. While unpacking the doors I found 2 damaged, dented, one in front with big crease another damaged in 2 places on back side, the problem is they were packed in the middle of the box with two other sections one on top and one on bottom both had no damage at all which means they were damaged before they were packed, how does that happen.... I was forced to install anyway because I had removed the old before I found the damage. I didn't check the panels first because there were no signs of any damage to the package, so I assumed everything was OK, that was a mistake. So, beware when you buy from Clopay, don't assume all is well just because the package is.....

After caring for the old wooden (Masonite) door for 39 years we chose Clopay’s Ideal Classic style insulated door. What a huge improvement in looks and function. So much better than the door made in 1961! as recomended, I waxed the new door with auto wax and it shines real nice. Would recommend Ideal doors and Menard’s for the price.

The easy set torsion spring hardware with medallion up grade was not well engineered. The screws which were to be installed by drilling through the hub extender into the torque tube. When the screws were tightened the screws broke off. Needed to engineer a proper fix. The torque tubes were drilled in alignment with the extension hub holes and 1/4"-20 bolts with sufficient shoulder length to traverse the hub tube were put through the holes and lock nuts were installed. This provides a no wobble system. the doors were 9 feet wide and there was no carrier bearing for the torque tubes. Built a steady bearing to remove all play in the torque tube. The plastic handles that were supplied did not look like they would survive 6 openings and they were not installed. The connection point between the vertical and horizontal sections did not align exactly as the profiles are slightly different. The for trim/ weather stripping mounting system was non existent. Had to provide a system which was not obtrusive to mount the weather strips. Used oval head galvanizes siding nalils. There should be a method of installing the weather strip and then putting a trim cover over the mounting screws to provide a neat appearance of the finished products. When garage doors closest thousands of dollars they should look like they were installed by craftsmen with a finished look. There were just exactly enough bolts for connecting the mounting angles to the vertical tracks. Heaven help you if you loose one during installation. In Canada the Home Depot store does not have any spare parts. They have to order parts. I purchased 2 doors with the wider weather stripping to accommodate an old garage floor. Only one weather strip arrived. The first response was the at the part would arrive in 5 to 6 weeks. After a bit of DISCUSSION the local store agreed to get the parts from some where on the west coast of Canada. The parts were due in 3 weeks. Currently all roads from Alberta to the Wes coast are washed out and need repair. When I first decided to get new doors in May 2021 the order time was 8 weeks. In consultation the the installer he would have time in early September, still nice weather. When I placed the order the delivery was 12 weeks. Because the doors were 2" of insulation that increased to 16 weeks and finally after 19 weeks the doors arrived. Installing the doors third week in November was much cooler than it would have been in September. The doors are in and working. When we went to register the doors we put he serial numbers in however there was no place to register the medallion upgrade "registration code". looks like the programmers and the marketing people work for different organizations. Just replaced our 22 year old builder grade, 2 layer Clopay doors that were installed when we had the house built. If not for the few vehicle hits they took over the years, rough operation, aging seals, and peeling vinyl backing, I probably would have kept them for another 10 years. Not to mention my wife got tired of looking at dented doors. This time around we opted for the 3 layer 1-3/8” doors with arched windows and faux black hardware. What a difference they make! Not only do they look great with the accents of hardware and windows on white faux wood grained doors, but they add natural light and insulation to the garage space. I noticed a marked difference in temperature within an hour of installation. As far as the noise level is concerned, the torsion springs over conventional springs and LiftMaster belt drive over screw drive made operation virtually smooth and silent. Kudos also go out to the Hunter Door Service installers for their friendly and pleasant character, and quick and efficient installation.

If there is water coming through the joints on a door while closed tight, please call the Dealer who installed the door to make adjustments to address that issue. Steel garage doors require maintenance – for coastal areas, should be washed 4 times per year and use spray wax to help prevent surface rust. "Disappointing experience!"

3 things I would like to share. The door came with only 1 torsion spring which is not enough to lift the 16'x7' door smoothly. After installation I noticed the white paint on 2 of the panels is scratched along its length and it took 3 months to order the door. Unfortunately I can not say that I am happy with Clopay.

We've now had two of these doors. The first one buckled at the top due to improper installation by the home builder. The second buckled at the bottom and worked its way up due to wind caving it in. We didn't want to file an insurance claim for it so we've been using a collapsed door for 2 years. Not a well built door.

"New Clopay Door Issues/Quality"

Just installed one of five doors this weekend and to begin one of the panels had a scratch in the painted finish. Now if I were installing these on someone else's property I would have had to reject the panel, but it was for my own residence and it had already taken four months to get them in the first place. Second is it came with random door stop lengths which will not be allow me to install all doors without having to attempt to splice the door stop material in some form or another which is unacceptable. I will be reaching out to the vendor to rectify this issue, and will follow up with new ratings after interaction with them. As far as overall door quality I will be further examing there performance with a FLIR gun over the following days and throughout the year to see if the increase in R value is truly beneficial, and minus the scratch and some random overrun of foam from certain seams they seemed like a decent door compared to others we have installed.

Where we live, it gets over 100 degrees F a lot during the summer. We have a water softener in the garage, so the heat in there was well over 100 degrees with the old simple metal door. So, there was not cold water to be had in the home. When we had the insulated door installed, the temp dropped to the low 80's, so, at least there was cool water available. It also made our garage useful space.

Overall, I'm happy with the look and performance of the garage door. However, there are two things that caused me to give this less than a perfect review. First, the installation went smoothly with the local contractor. They were professional, prompt, and efficient. Unfortunately, a few days after the work was completed, I noticed that the corners of the bottom gasket were not sealing the enclosure properly. They were rubbing up against the side seals, resulting in some gaps at the bottom corners when the garage door was closed. This resulted in snow blowing into the garage. I emailed the vendor to fix the problem but never heard back from them. I'll have to do this myself when the weather warms up. Second, the garage door intermittently will not close all the way, will fail to initiate closing, or will stop and then go into reverse. I've tried changing the light bulbs to reduce interference, removing the light bulbs completely, resetting the codes, manually adjusting the closing settings on the motor housing, etc. I've also consulted the website for a solution without success. For these reasons I give my Clopay garage door experience a less than perfect review.

I made the right choice with this door. Transformed the house.

The door is basic as expected, but came in with 2 dents, BECAUSE it is a custom order BECAUSE no one stocks 2 car garage doors in ANY major retailer, I was unable to return or ask for them to fix, OR EVEN DENY the purchase. I find that insane. Home Depot straight up said no, you can't get this fixed even though we delivered it to you with dents in it. WOW. On top of that, they said it would take 6 weeks to manufacture, it actually took 6 MONTHS!!!! Watch out, this and home depot are just bad partnership.

This was a large door (10x20) and none of the standard installation directions were applicable which meant i had to search the Clopay website and review a bunch of different docs to arrive at a reasonable instruction set. Even then I never found instructions which properly identified the fasteners delivered with the door. Come on Clopay, you can build a nice door, just make proper instruction sets, manage them with part numbers, and deliver them with the door as if it were important. Only other complaint is many of the fasteners are very poor grade. Don't use a newer high power impact driver or you will twist the heads off before they bottom.

"Improved wildfire protection"

I installed two single doors myself with the help of a friend. The delivery of the parts by the local installation company went well. The quality of the parts was very good, and the result is attractive, keeps the inside warmer in cold weather, and the windows allow good light into the formerly dark garage during daytime. The main reason for choosing to replace the former wood doors with metal ones was to "harden" the home exterior in the wildfire zone where embers would potentially build up if or when there is a nearby fire. That goal has been accomplished. We were able to install the torsion springs after checking the appropriate videos online, and the ceiling of the garage is much less cluttered that when the former extension springs were installed. Each door took us a full day to complete, partly because of all the riveted connections between the vertical track and its supports, which didn't fit our particular situation. Most of the rivets had to be drilled out.

The phone and watch app are part of the automatic opener which is the motor in the ceiling of the garage and that is manufactured by a different company as Clopay only manufactures the manual garage door. If you look up at the motor in the ceiling of the garage, there will be a name on the side of the motor large enough to read without having to get on a ladder. You should be able to Google search the opener manufacturer to search for a phone number or if you contact our Consumer Services department here at Clopay by calling 1-800-225-6729 and press option 2 and then option 1 Monday through Friday 8am-6pm EST, one of our customer service representatives would be happy to provide you with the phone number of the opener manufacturer as we have a list of the opener manufacturer phone numbers. If the door is making noise, one thing that you can try is to lubricate the moving parts of the door, which must be done at least twice a year. We recommend using our Clopay Pro-Lube that can be purchased in store or online through any local Home Depot store.

Clopay HDLP20 with Madison 611 windows and the Medallion upgrade. Home Depot order #H3102-92272. Case #1229666. It's a GREAT door and I have noticed that the insulation really is an improvement over my old door in keeping my garage heat in during cold weather and the air conditioning not working so hard in the warm weather. The windows are great too letting in lots of light so I usually don't need my garage lights on. The Medallion upgraded hinges look very strong and the Medallion rollers are very quiet when opening and closing the door. I'm not sure about the Medallion high cycle springs though, they just don't look correct. Buy this door, you will love it!

I have a 15 year old house and recently have had problems with the front plastic window grilles breaking, snapping. The door itself has never been a problem and held up quite well. I emailed customer service the serial # on the gargage door and unfortunately they stated this particular model was discontinued. However they had some of the old stock remaining and sent me four grilles (2 right side and 2 left side) free of charge. They arrived within days and fit perfectly. Not often do you come across someone that goes the extra mile but this is exactly what happened with the representative at Clopay. I will definitely consider Clopay for all my future garage doors and entry door needs.

"Customer service came through."

I have a brand new house, and we love the door, which look awesome. However after a week of living there I noticed a cracked window, interior pane of insulated glass, no clue how or when it happened. The builder refused to fix or do anything about it, basically said it was my problem. So I messaged customer service had a little kick back as they claim dealer has to do all warranty work for the 1st year. I argued with the rep who eventually took it to a supervisor and I got a new replacement window sent out, which is all installed and is greatly appreciated. We had the original wood garage doors on our house for 39 years and they were showing some wear (see attached photo). We looked into painting and replacing sections of the door that showed some rot with wood, but found that it was difficult to match and pretty expensive. We looked into metal doors as an alternative and found that we could replace the doors, hardware, add insulation, windows, a finished interior and have little on-going maintenance . We thought that the incremental cost over repair of the wood doors was compelling. As a bonus, the standard almond color worked well with our color scheme (see attached). We upgraded the hardware and are pleased with the quieter operation.

Has an irregular line running across the length of top panel that occured recently. Shown to local sales person who told me it was a scratch but would discuss it with Clopay. Its almost a month with no follow up. As you can see these pictures show a crack. I want that panel changed. This door was installed on 2.27.2020 and I noticed in mid Sept.

We replaced our 20yo basic garage door with this Clopay Polyurethane insulated door to make the garage nicer to work in during the hot California summer days. Needless to say I was very surprised with the results considering we have not insulated the attic above it yet. The certified shop I purchased from installed the weather strip and door to seal from air circulating in and out around the edges as well. We installed a mini split A/C a few weeks later and now the garage can stay cooler than the house, allowing me to run it on power save mode pretty much all the time. I can’t recommend this garage door manufacturer enough along with the installer at Wilfredos Garage Door business.

I have trouble why I spent several hundred dollars on a garage door that I figure quality control would take care of unless quality control has low standards. 1st my mechanical ability and judgement to this product is not blame the material and or pattern which is great! But the quality of drilling or throwing panels together is worthless. I received 2 #3 panels and assume this order was thrown together. I had already returned 2 garage doors because of dents in packaging or shipment. The very first one I returned was in a complete box. The other 2 shipments I received and returned were banded together in foam and cardboard. That is exposed packaging to go to a customer. Then receiving my 3rd garage door I have 2 #3 panels. Which one was I'm assuming thrown in for a #4 that didn't line up. My frustrations was why again do I deal with with the distributor when I need to go to the source. I just need a #4 panel that fits. Follow the direction in the included manual and your results will be good. I am happy to state that the direction/manual are included and are well written. Nice doors for the price but my door through Home Depot at the beginning of the covid and when I went to install I noticed one of the pains of glass was broken and a #2 hinge is bent. I registered it with you for warranty and heard nothing and because there Home Depot weren’t taking any returns at the time I’m stuck with it. I do not have any pictures of the #2 hinge

This door looks as much like real wood as a steel door can. We got the plain arched windows to let in light. The glass in the windows is pebbled so there’s no privacy issue. The “good” level of insulation is perfect for our east facing garage. Hooked right up to our existing garage door opener. It prettied up that whole side of the house!

This is one of the easiest critiques I have ever written. My wife and I recently purchased a replacement garage door and new opener from Home Depot. We ordered the Classic Steel double wide garage door from Clopay and we could not be more pleased. We ordered the door with extra wind resistance and extra insulation. We live in an area that can get high winds and very cold weather. The installer said that not only was the door good looking but this was one of the strongest garage doors he has ever installed and should be able to withstand any weather we could possibly get. "Bad Packaging."

I have no real problem with the door itself just very disappointed in how it was packaged. I had numerous dents and dings on the door panels. Some where from the two ties wrapped around the box, another was the from placing the window panel at the bottom and you could tell it was lifted by a forklift during shipping. I also had a broken window which home depot replaced quickly and easily.

I purchased 3 of the best steel insulated doors from Menards, 2-9x7 and 1-16x7. Because of construction and insulation value and they had everything I needed to install. I had issues with 2 of the 3 doors, the first one, a 9x7 the cables kept fouling and i had to actually reverse the sides to get it to work. The 16x7went together great but the Easywind mechanism stripped and calling customer service was a challenge. When I finally got the "Menards" lady on the phone, she gave me an attitude and told me to drive to my nearest Menards 40 miles away for a replacement part. I told her I wouldn't do that and she reluctantly sent the part to me and I got the door working.

"Quality and design is better than most others"

This replaced the original door that was installed in 1976. Most of the time I hear the phrase "they don't make them like they used to". Well I'm glad to say that my new door from Clopay is far superior to what was originally installed. We chose a 2 in double sided steel, with injected thermalcore foam and thermal pane windows. WOW, its quite a door. It's so nice, now I can heat the garage in winter. The standard tracks and related hardware were not as sturdy as I would have liked. I think you can upgrade to a high wind package as an option. Overall I'm very happy. I'm fairly certain that Clopay makes the best standard and custom doors in the market.

"Decent door but a few concerns.."

We recently had our garage door replaced with a Clopay grooved panel insulated door. Door seems decent, it’s quiet and has a nice finish on the outside. The inside was a bit disappointing.. We chose the vinyl-backed insulation option expecting a thick plastic like on some other manufacturers vinyl backed models. However this door has what seems like an ultra thin plastic and when you bump the insulation with your hand or an object, it leaves a dent.. This is something that I would not have expected, but we’re not sure if this is typical. Also there was only a single strut installed near the opener bracket, the door seems sturdy, but we’re concerned that it may sag while open and eventually have issues. This may be an installer shortcut, we’re not yet sure, struts can always be added. In summary, overall the door is decent but the insulation finish on the inside is something you want to see for yourself before ordering. In fairness, It may be possible that we did not get the correct backing/product.

"Failed paint finish"

The garage door paint finish has started to rust in less than 8 years. I do not have the original proof of purchase. I do have all kinds of information proving Clopay as the manufacturer (serial and product id code are on the door) and Adams Garage Doors in Mississauga, Ontario as the organization from which I purchased the door. I also have a purchase order number. They will not start a claim for me without the proof of purchase even though all this information is on the door. Poor paint finish and poor warranty program!! The product is clearly Clopay and they don't want to stand behind their product.

"Very poor customer service"

I purchased 2 10x7 doors via Home Depot website. Based on dimension/clearance information it called for me to order low headroom tracks. Once installed it was evident that these tracks cause a lose of about 6 inches of clearance from finished opening. This was never mentioned in any of the information provided. When I contacted Clopay they basically told me that is the way it is and it would likely be cheaper to purchase new doors with standard tracks. I called again and their support team said 12” radius single tracks would likely work, $1500 dollars more and would not exchange my current tracks. I returned to HD who was able to work with Clopay and get the price down to $600 for both tracks. I am now having to pay much more and also have to wait another month for the tracks to arrive so I can attempt to complete the install.

The vertical tracks will be cut, and additional horizontal track pieces will be included with this system. When customers purchase an insulated Clopay door, they have the option of getting single or double pane windows as some of our windows, for example our wrought iron windows, are not offered in double pane as they are acrylic and not actual glass. There are instances where a garage may be warm or humid but have a cooler garage door surface due to a colder exterior temperature. Temperature extremes and humidity considerations can contribute to condensation.

I am sorry that you have experienced this issue with your Clopay door. Hopefully this review can help others avoid this same issue. When a spring breaks on your door, you must disconnect the automatic opener from the door and get the spring replaced for the door to operate. Doors are very heavy (often hundreds of pounds) and only move because the spring “counterbalances” the weight. Without a functioning spring, the door is dead weight and cannot be lifted with the opener alone. If the opener keeps pulling on a door with a broken spring, it will result in damage.

"DIY two single classic 8 x 7 doors with windows."

Replacement for two wooden doors I installed about 30 years ago. Windows in the 3rd row and low overhead conversion kits. Low overhead instructions say to cut 3 in off the top of the vertical tracks, I had to cut 4-5 in off. Also one top panel developed some slight warpage in the sheet metal. Tech support says the J-hook wasn't at the right angle (off by about 15 degrees) and not covered under warranty. I made adjustments and screwed a two ft piece of angle iron across the top. The j-hook on that door has a 75 instead of a 90 degree bend which might have something to do with it. Am I the only one to have this problem? No mention of this in the instructions. My advise, call tech support if you this kind of a j-hook and take a picture of your installation for future reference. I installed angle iron on the other door even though the instructions said it wasn't necessary for that size door.

Our new Clopay garage door is a phenomenal addition to the front of our house. We had hoped the door would 'spiff up' the entrance, but our expectations were far exceeded! "Good garage door"

I am very pleased with the overall door construction and quality. I have a manual door, so use the door handle and lock. The quality of the hardware door handles and rods that lock them are very cheaply made and handles are to small. Also the pull down is very small and just a cheap piece of bent metal, not easy to grasp to pull door down. A regular door handle that you can grasp hold of would be much better and that wouldn't be a cost issue I believe. So the door quality is great, but the metal hardware on the door could be more sturdy. Still I am satisfied with the door.

The difference between these and the 1-layer cheap steel doors that had been on my garage for the last 25 years is nothing short of amazing. When combined with the technology of Chamberlain B750 openers, the quietness and efficiency alone makes these Clopay doors well worth the investment.

"Clopay's website is misleading when ordering"

Clopay's website does not allow the ungraded hardware when ordering if the consumer decides to install the garage door themselves. Clopay ships a hardware kit that includes flimsy hinges and the torsion tube is in two pieces that needs to be screwed together and secured with a plastic center bracket along with smaller cable drums. The torsion spring is of a different design than the conventional torsion springs used in sectional overhead garage doors. Very disappointed with the economy grade hardware that was sent. Clopay refuses to exchange the economy hardware kit for the upgraded kit, so ask before how to go about receiving the upgrade hardware kit if you decide to do it yourself prior to purchasing their product.

Purchased a brand new garage door to replace an old one. After we installed it noticed the rubber seal on the bottom of the door was warped 8 inches on one end. Thus allowing light and air in. Did not seal to the concrete floor. Called and was told to take it up with the company where door was purchased. Not the answer I was looking for.

My new door is so quiet you cant even hear it open from inside the house like I used to be able with my old door and opener. The door is insulated which keeps my garage warmer and the room above it, and the windows are also double pane and insulated. It looks great and the finish is also appealing.

"rubber bottom seal is wrinkled and is defective"

The door itself looks good, but the rubber seal at the bottom is wrinkled and really looks bad, and is not acceptable. Advantage Garage Door, the installer, said they will replace it when the weather gets warmer, as the cold weather is the problem? If this problem is resolved, I would recommend this door.

"Very happy with my decision"

I had several choices but our new Clopay door was the best choice. I have yet to experience how much warmer the garage will be this Winter with an insulated door with a good overall seal around it. I'm sure it'll be much better than the old door! The floor at the opening is crowned slightly so the installer was good enough to add a larger bottom seal to close the gaps along the edges. I'm very happy with my choice!

Just a year after purchase I had to replace the main spring and the end rail cones around which the tension wires wrap. With better parts the door now operates like it should have. Basically, the operating system was cheap and weak with the tension wires coming off several times
