How It’s Made: Classic™ Steel
The Classic™ Steel garage door is designed to handle daily use while looking great for years to come. You can choose from single-, double-, or triple-layer construction, with every option starting with high-quality steel for reliable strength. For insulation, pick either Intellicore® polyurethane—Clopay’s advanced foam that expands to fill the door for maximum energy efficiency and durability—or opt for solid polystyrene panels that add comfort and quiet.
The exterior steel panels are protected by a multi-layer coating system, including hot-dipped galvanizing, a special metal oxide pretreatment, and a baked-on primer and topcoat, all working together to keep rust away and the finish looking sharp. Maintenance is easy, with a replaceable vinyl bottom seal in a rust-resistant aluminum retainer blocking out water and drafts, and removable window grilles for simple cleaning.
Safety comes built in, too, thanks to the patented Safe-T-Bracket® that helps prevent injury during maintenance. Insulated models also include smooth, quiet nylon rollers and heavy-duty steel hinges, so your door works smoothly every day.

There are also special double door top sections and unique arch window options for wider openings.

You can determine the level of privacy the windows offer in your Classic™ Steel garage door with a range of specialty glass. Choose clear glass if privacy isn’t an issue and you like the idea of sunlight streaming through the windows. If you want a little more character or privacy, try seeded or rain glass. Both options add subtle patterns that blur the view while still allowing daylight to brighten your garage. Frosted and obscure glass options take privacy up a notch, gently diffusing light and keeping your space hidden from view. For a modern twist, Midnight Gray glass brings a chic, tinted look with added privacy and glamour.

If you love the warmth of wood but want the durability of steel, the Ultra-Grain® finishes in Medium, Cherry, or Walnut offer a realistic wood-look texture without the upkeep of a traditional wood door. If you need a specific color, the ColorBlast® custom paint program lets you match nearly any color scheme, with more than 1,500 custom shades available.

What is the difference between the Elegant and the Traditional panel design?
The Elegant design has decorative panel edging and is available on Premium insulated door designs. The Traditional panel does not have this edging detail and is offered on the Value and Value Plus models.

Reliable and Looks Great
Very happy with this garage door! It looks great, opens and closes smoothly, and has been reliable every day. Installation was straightforward, and I haven’t had any issues getting in or out of my garage. Definitely recommend it!

Awesome Clopay door
We recently had a new garage door installed, and we couldn’t be happier with our choice of the Clopay Classic model. The sleek, clean design instantly improved the curb appeal of our home, giving it a modern yet timeless look. The R-6 insulation has been a great feature, helping the garage stay more comfortable throughout the day while also making the door operate more quietly. The color is beautiful and complements our home’s exterior perfectly—it looks even better in person than we expected. Overall, the quality, appearance, and performance have exceeded our expectations. If you’re looking for a stylish, well-built garage door with solid insulation, the Clopay Classic model is an excellent choice. We highly recommend it!

VERY DISAPPOINTED!
Clopay is supposed to be positioned towards the higher end of the residential garage door market, when it comes to build quality, reliability, & I suppose by default, design too. So after purchasing a 16’ insulated door from the classic line, complete with the ‘Stockton’ glass panel section, I was shocked by what I encountered. Barely adequate packaging, poorly fitted window sections, misaligned door panel end-caps, really cheap hinges & rollers, & worst of all, a generally bad approach to its design. There’s a 2-piece pipe joined by a crude connector & some self tapping screws, that forms the underpinnings for the torsion springs. Obviously a cost savings over using a far more durable & safer, single pipe which would not have cost any most to ship. The 2-piece pipe is supported, & rotates inside a plastic bracket that at the very least should contain a bearing, or bushing. I initially thought it was a joke, until I realized this was some engineers idea of an acceptable component for a part of a garage door mechanism that is under incredible stresses during opening & closing cycles. I could have 3D printed a better part. Then there’s the instructions, which are poorly written, lack clearly concise diagrams & leave much to be figured out by the installer. My other garage door is made by Amarr, & sits in approximately the same position when it comes to features & price point. However, the engineering & design runs circles around this Clopay offering, remains almost silent when opening & closing after 5-years of use, & doesn’t rely upon upgrading the hardware just to have a basically respectable door that opens & closes without sounding like the Titanic breaking up as it descended to its watery grave
